Research vessel Kronprins Haakon

CAGE will be a key user of the Norwegian Polar Institute’s new ice-class research vessel R/V Kronprins Haakon. The ship is scheduled to be launched in the fall of 2016 and will have Tromsø as its home port.

Kronprins Haakon is Norway’s first newly built ice research ship in a hundred years, and is an important continuation of the proud Norwegian research traditions in the Arctic. The vessel is capable of completing up to six weeks long cruises in icy waters. Research vessel Kronprins Haakon - Rolls Royce Marine

The ship will be owned by the Norwegian Polar Institute  and operated by the Institute of Marine Research. UiT The Arctic University of Norway will be the main user of the vessel.
