Research School

The PhD Trainee School in Arctic Marine Geology and Geophysics (AMGG) was established in October 2005 by the University Board at UiT The Arctic University of Norway.

The aim of AMGG is to train PhD students and young scientists in the field of arctic marine geology and geophysics.

The Department of Geology at UiT is hosting the trainee school, joining forces with the Geological Survey of Norway, the Norwegian Polar Institute and The University Centre in Svalbard (UNIS).

The PhD trainee school offers training courses, cruises and workshops. The research focuses on the development of arctic continental shelves and margins, including the following topics:

  • Glacial processes and products
  • Geohazards, geofluids and gas hydrates
  • Paleo-climate and –oceanography
  • Energy and environment

AMGG is closely associated with the National Research School in Climate Dynamics (ResClim), and is lead by Dr. Giuliana Panieri from CAGE. Check out the AMGG web-page for more information.
